New cat painting and the solution to varnish!

I can´t stop painting cats :-)
This one is 14 cm 14 cm (7,5 " x 7,5") incl the wooden frames.
I also added som beautiful Swarovski crystals to look like bright stars!
It is really nice accually :-) It also has a little moody poem written by myself.

Also, where there is a will, there is a way!
I have found the solution to varnish a acrylic painting adorned with Posca pens! Remember I allmost ruined a painting? LINK The secret is to SPRAY the varnish instead of painting it on. Then the Posca won´t run out! On these paintings I used a varnish from Winsor & Newton and it works just great! I love the gloss!

How do you sell your art?

How are you today? My godness it is warm here in Denmark these days! The temperature has been 25 Celsius (77 Fahrenheit) and that is very hot for me! My animals are totally worn out:
Arthur tries to find a place to rest and to be cooled down.

Right now I am taking a breather in my basement. It is nice and cooler down here.
I would like to show you something:
Occasionally, I like to sell my jewelry and other stuff on the markeds and streets. I like to watch people pass by, and make some art or jewelry at the stand. Years back, I invented some big wooden suitcases, that opens up as a jewelry display, and they still work great! My mother also made some, and they are a bit smaller and lighter then the ones I normally use. Because of my mothers health, (cancer), she gave the two suitcases to me, and today I am painting one of them black!. They had this rotten greenish color, and I hated it. I looked old and not hip at all. I have added some nice handles both in front and at the back. Inside there will be two narrow mattresses lined with some nice cloth. I useually use white or black velvet, but you can use anything you like. I glue it on at the back with lots of hot glue gun. It is the only thing holding the mattresses in place accually. The jewelry hangs nicely using small neadles.
This suitcase I am painting will have a little different design. I will put a metal plate to hang my tiny paintings with magnets on the back. I call them "refrigerator art" :-)
This design was not made by me. I copied another artist, but I cannot remember who. Just to show you the magnets.

I totally forgot to take pictures before I started ripping out the old mattress and before I started painting it, but here is what I have so far:
You get the idea, right? I am not painting the inside, because it will get covered by a mattress.

My mother had a terrible tast in color :-) It is ugly green!

I will show you the finished result when I am completely finish with the painting.
In the meanwhile, you could leave a comment, and tell me how you display your stuff. I find that very interesting.

Oh I just had to own this lovely book!

I am a sucker for crafts books. Especially books about artdolls! I have quite a few accually, but when I surfe around on Amazon, I can´t always stop myself from purchasing a new book... There are soooo many totally cool books on artdolls!
I recently ordered "Anatomy of a doll" by Susanna Oroyan, and I just had to have this one too: "Designing the doll: from consept to construction". I love the author, the layout and the pictures.

What is your favorite artdoll book? Any good recommandations for me?

Reflections upon Refleksion

I am soo tired today.... After spending the entire weekend at the puppet theatre Teater Refleksion participating in a workshop (Construct your own puppet), I am totally worn out. Just why I am so tired, is quite a mysterie, because I accually didn´t DO much. I just spent hours after hours carving balsawood, drawing, sculpting the head, contemplate over proportions and so on. At the theatre, there are no computers, no tv, no radio and no mess. Everything is still, clean and simple. Allmost Zen. It ia magical. I guess that I am so tired, because I have learnt so much, and have been so much in the present moment. Coming home Sunday evening, I had to fetch something in my own studio in my basement. Oh my godness! Can I accually create anything in this mess? My studio is a complete apposite to the beautyful Zen-like studio at the theatre.
I have to do more thinking about this: Creativety and organized living. Right now they are miles apart in my studio....
The workshop goes on for the next two weekends. I will add more reflections and pics along the way.
At the very first day we got to see a puppet performance "Boxy-George". Beaytiful and moving. You can see the trailer here:

Painting the hands and feet black!

Hi there! I just wanted to show you some of my stupid endeavors in my studio :-)
I have mentioned before that I am participating in this danish project where several artist are making eachothers doll LINK. For the first time I feel a bit stuck. I don´t really enjoy the proces. I have a hard time relate to the doll parts that land in my mailbox. I somehow feel that I cannot finish the parts that I am supposed to, and it is killing me.
Right now I have 2 dolls here, and I finally finished the hands and feets for the lovely dollhead I recieved from Christina in Sweden, and are supposed to send it to another artist, who will make a body and attach hands and feet, but the stupid paint will not dry!!!!!! I dont know why, because I painted both the feet and the hands in same color, and the feets are fine???? Perhaps I forgot to stir the little bottle of paint.... Somtimes that makes the paint sticky?
Very well, I hope another well stirred layer of paint will make the paint harden, and in the meantime, you can share a laugh with my by looking at these pictures

Vampire doll

I made this doll a couple of months ago, as a gift for my dear sister. Nothing much to say about her, except that she is made of polymer clay, Magic Sculpt and wire armature.
Somehow I liked her better before she was painted. What do you think? Do you also find your dolls more interesting before they are painted?
